Work more efficiently with a centralized application

In this blog, we'd like to take you on a practical journey. What can we learn from common bottlenecks? And do you ever come across these challenges during assignments or your internship?

How Nokavision creates overview and maximizes efficiency at various logistics companies

Logistics is a world in motion, and to be future-proof in this industry, many factors matter. Data, processes, AI and people such as employees on customer service, in the warehouse, and on the truck play a big role in efficiency within companies. Added to that are different systems such as TMS, WMS, finance, and planning, all with their own data. One challenge is to get an overview of all the processes and data. By creating insight, we can ensure that data reaches the right person at the right time, with the right context. At that moment, loose data turns into valuable information and the efficiency within an organization increases.

Bottlenecks in practice

As experts in software solutions within logistics, we see several challenges recurring regularly. Data is constantly changing. Consulting it in the different information sources and looking up data in different systems takes time and creates an extra workload that doesn’t need to be there. If there is no linkage, data must be looked up and copied manually. Transferring data from one system to another is not effective. People work outside the system, such as through Excel lists. This creates errors and data is not accurate and consistent. If data is not timely and consistent, it can lead to errors with consequences.

Listed below are the activities that can lead to inaccurate data:

  • Processing data in various systems (TMS, WMS, FS, Excel and Portals);
  • Store documents in various folders;
  • Consulting information in various systems and portals;
  • wasted time writing, sending and reading emails with attachments (documents and photos).

The solution

The goal in these challenges is to create overview, consistency and efficiency. Nokavision has realized this at several logistics customers through an umbrella application “Order Management with Customer Portal.” The following

technology was deployed to achieve the goal. The overarching application was developed using a Low-Code Application Development Platform, LCAP for short. The systems were linked using an Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS). Nokavision also deployed Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) software, which allowed transport order documents to enter the system automatically without manual input.

Employees in customer service, in the warehouse, the driver on the truck and the customer were each given access to this application so that everyone has the correct uniform information. Information is displayed based on everyone’s role and information needs. Ongoing actions and activities around customer orders, shipments, inbound orders and outbound orders to even a map with the current position of the transport in transit is displayed through an easy-to-use dashboard. By making the information needs the same everywhere and showing them clearly, work goes better and customers are satisfied. Previously, you had to contact each system and department separately, but that is no longer necessary. Customers and employees can now see the same information and status. As a result, there is less pressure on customer service and customers are automatically informed through a portal. This saves time and allows for more proactive communication about transport orders and delivery times.

With these smart and user-friendly solutions, Nokavision shows how technology and insight go hand in hand to future-proof the logistics industry. By creating overview, connecting data and making information accessible to everyone, companies increase their efficiency and customer satisfaction. This not only makes logistics faster and more reliable, but also ready for the challenges of the future. For you as a logistics student, this is a great example of how digital tools and collaboration in practice create real progress.
